I. Elements of Magical Realism

III. Plot Summary
- People are mourning over Colonial Aureliano Buendia. Fernanda gives birth to another child Amaranta Ursula. Amaranta continues to be harsh lonely and regretful. Apparently death told her that she should sew her own shroud and when she is done, she will die a painless and fearless death. She announces this to everyone. After she dies at dusk. Ursula is sad and goes to her bed and does not get up from it. Meme grows up and starts disliking her mother and becomes like her father. She befriends a few American girls. She falls in love with Mauricio Babilonia. She is caught kissing and her mother found out that he sneaks into the house. So the mother puts a guard outside and as he comes to the house again, he is shot and paralyzed for the rest of his life.
IV. Quotes
- “What shocks me about you… is that you always say exactly what you shouldn’t be saying.” Pg 288 This quote really jumps out at me because I have friends like this.
- “I don’t need cards to tell the future…” Pg 289 This is deep because some people need cards to tell their future.
V. Themes
1. Death- Amaranta dies
2. Love- Meme falls in love with Mauricio Babilonia
3. Insanity- Death telling Amaranta that her death is going to be painless and going to be at dusk.
