III. Plot Summary-
- Things in the house are changing and Ursula is becoming old and blind. No one notices that she is going blind because she knows how people functions in that house. Amaranta begins preparing for her death. Fernanda del Carpio continues to get domestic power. Aureliano moves in with Petra Cotes. He almost kills himself in an eating contest. Aureliano tries to play father to his children. Jose Segundo comes back to talk to Colonial Aureliano but pushes himself away further. As he continues to go further, he gets further to death. Then he passes away.

This is so true, the past years used to go fast but now they are going slowly.
- “ You have a heart of stone” pg 258 I like this quote because I can relate to it.

IV. Themes
1. Bitter/rude- Amaranta talks so harshly to people because of her own issues.
2. Oldness- Ursula is becoming old and blind
3. Powerful- Fernanda del Carpio continues to gain power.
