Journal entry
I think that the night before the battle, Roland would most probably think about ideas for what he would do if by any chance, he and his team were captured by the Muslims. I don’t think that he was actually thinking he would not blow his horn if they team was in trouble but I do think that he wanted to come back as a hero, and feel like the reason that he and few of his members came back alive was all because of him. I think he felt that he was going to beat this people and come back to all the glory for himself. Basically I think that Roland was mainly thinking about himself and how he was going to be a hero. If this is the case, than Roland was a selfish person who didn’t care about anything way past himself and other people’s safety. I also don’t think that teamwork was in his mind either; I think it was about him alone fighting this battle. Maybe he was not all that selfish. Maybe he prayed for his army’s safety at some point while thinking, but I think that he was mainly thinking about himself. These are my thoughts.

literature
I. The quality that I believe is most valuable is ‘the ability to make sure that the whole team functions smoothly as a unit because being an example does not always influence other people the way one has it set up to be. Having the ability to get a unit in order and run smoothly is more effective because you have the strength to help get people together even maybe with the differences they have but can still work smoothly as a team.
II.
• Someone who is able to guide its people during hard times and get them out of hard times
• Focused with what they do
• Ability to help the country grow
• Strong mentally (positive attitude)
• Educated/smart
• Humble
• Self less, not prideful
• Turns to God for help
III. Am not sure that Roland is the leader that has all of the attributes that I displayed in the list above. I say this because the way I’ve understand the story, Instead of doing what was best for his team to protect them, his pride was what got him and the team caught during the battle. A prideful leader can really mess things up because of maybe reputation and not using your brain. Even though just about to die he actually prayed for his peers. The point that I was getting at when he prayed for his peers is that in his prayer he did not only think of himself while praying but even for those around him. But having only one good quality out of all the rest, does not consider him a good leader. I also don’t think that Roland meets the first bullet on the list above because he was not able to guide his people during hard times instead he failed to get his people out of the difficult times.
